Tap Tavern
Terms of Service

These terms are the house rules for Tap Tavern: the website taptavern.app and the Tap Tavern Activity in Discord (together, “Tap Tavern”). By hosting, joining or watching a party, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Tap Tavern. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information.
The short version
- Tap Tavern is free. There are no accounts and nothing to buy.
- Keep names, photos and drawings friendly for everyone in the room.
- Don’t attack, overload or cheat the service.
- It comes as is: parties end, and games can change.
1. Who we are
Tap Tavern is run by Tyler Brady, in the United States (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected].
2. Who can play
Tap Tavern is for everyone and has no minimum age. Children should play in a party that a parent or guardian hosts and supervises. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian should agree to these terms with you. In Discord, you must also meet Discord’s own age requirements.
3. The service
Tap Tavern lets one screen host a party, and phones join it as controllers. It is free to use.
- No account is needed. Your progress is kept in a profile tied to your browser (see the Privacy Policy). If you clear your browser’s data or switch devices, your progress stays behind, and we can’t restore it.
- A party closes 20 minutes after everyone leaves (3 minutes if nobody ever joined), when the host ends it, or after 12 hours. A profile nobody has played with for 180 days is deleted.
- When the server is busy, a new party may have to wait for a free table. We restart the server for updates, which ends any open parties.
- We may add, change or remove games and features, or stop running Tap Tavern, at any time.
4. House rules
When you use Tap Tavern, don’t:
- choose a name, or share a photo or drawing, that is hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, violent or illegal, or that reveals someone’s private information;
- photograph people who haven’t agreed to it, or share pictures you don’t have the right to share;
- pretend to be someone else;
- join or watch a party you weren’t invited to, or try to guess room codes;
- get around the limits on parties and connections, overload the server, or disrupt other people’s games;
- scrape, copy, reverse-engineer or resell the site or its games, except where the law allows it;
- play with bots or scripts, other than the computer players built into Tap Tavern;
- use Tap Tavern to break the law, or Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
The host of a party can remove players from it. We may block anyone who breaks these rules, and remove anything that breaks them.
5. What you make
The names, photos and drawings you create stay yours. You allow us to show them to your party, and to anyone watching it, for as long as that game or party lasts and only to run the game. We don’t keep them afterward (see the Privacy Policy). You are responsible for what you share, and you confirm that you have the right to share it.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
6. Our games and artwork
Tap Tavern’s games, code, artwork, music and name belong to us, or to the artists who license them to us (see Credits and licenses). Third-party assets stay under their own licenses. We give you a personal, non-transferable permission to use Tap Tavern under these terms, which we can withdraw if you break them.
You may stream and record your games, share the videos and earn money from them, for example on YouTube or Twitch. You may also run Tap Tavern at venues and events, including paid ones such as a bar’s game night.
7. Unlockable items
The avatars, sounds and colors you unlock by playing have no money value. They can’t be bought, sold or traded, and we may change or reset them. They live in your profile, so if the profile is lost, they are lost too.
8. Playing in Discord
We run the Tap Tavern Activity in Discord; Discord does not. Discord is not responsible for Tap Tavern and does not endorse it. When you use Tap Tavern in Discord, Discord’s Terms of Service and Community Guidelines also apply.
9. Health and safety
Play with care. Keep a firm grip on your phone, watch your surroundings when a game has you move, and take breaks. Some games have flashing lights and fast motion. If you or anyone in your party has had seizures or photosensitive epilepsy, talk to a doctor before playing, and stop at once if you feel unwell.
10. No warranty
Tap Tavern is provided “as is” and “as available”. As far as the law allows, we don’t promise that it will always be available, be free of errors, keep your progress, or suit any particular purpose.
11. Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost data, that come from using Tap Tavern or being unable to use it. Our total liability for any claim is limited to USD 50. Nothing in these terms limits a liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited. Nor do they take away any consumer rights you can’t give up.
12. Stopping
You can stop using Tap Tavern at any time. Clearing your browser’s data removes it from your device, and unused profiles are deleted after 180 days. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms. Sections 5, 6, 10, 11 and 14 still apply afterward.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top, and we will say so on the site if a change is significant. If you keep playing after a change, the new terms apply to you.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Ohio, United States. Disputes go to the state or federal courts in Ohio, unless the law where you live lets you bring a claim where you live.
